BoJ's Fukui says watching yen move closely

The central bank will be keeping a close eye on yen movements in the wake of current volatility, Bank of Japan governor Toshihiko Fukui told a news conference in Tokyo on Friday 16 December.

"We are watching closely (to see) if currency movements affect economic activity," he said, but declined to comment further on the yen's current surge against the dollar.

On the issue of the country's more than seven year battle against deflation Fukui reiterated views expressed several times recently that
