Bank of England voted 8-1 to hold rates

Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee members voted 8- 1 to keep interest rates unchanged this month, the first split vote since August, minutes released on Wednesday 21 December showed.

Stephen Nickell, an external member of the MPC, backed lowering the repurchase rate a quarter point to 4.25 percent, the minutes of the Dec. 7-8 meeting showed. The majority said they wanted to wait for more economic data on wages and retail sales before making a decision.
