Russian c bank reports surge in counterfeit notes

In its annual report for 2002 the central bank of Russia has reported an increase in forged bank notes of 17 per cent with the 100-rouble note the most popular to be copied.

The most frequently forged cash in Russia is 1000-, 500-, and 100-rouble notes, and a five-rouble coin. As for foreign currencies, 99.3 per cent of forgeries are 100-dollar notes, the Central Bank of Russia said in its annual report published on Monday [12 May].
