Pig disease threatens inflation rise in China

Food prices, especially those of pork and eggs which make a substantial contribution to the country's inflation rate, are being closely watched by the People's Bank of China.

Governor Zhou Xiaochuan told reporters at a financial conference in Beijing today that the central bank will study May's inflation rate, due to be announced on June 12, before making any changes in interest rates, which have been raised twice in 2007.
