Fukui says BOJ at 'important phase'

The Bank of Japan is at an "important phase" in assessing whether core consumer prices are on a stable rising trend, Governor Toshihiko Fukui said Monday 6 March.

``Economic and price trends are moving in a favorable direction,'' Fukui said in parliament in Tokyo. ``The bank is at an important phase'' in judging policy.

The Bank of Japan will make a ``calm and objective'' decision on monetary policy and that ``putting the economy on a sustainable growth path'' is the central bank's long-term goal
