Nigerian budget will hurt economy - Central bank

NIGERIA - The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said Wednesday the country's 2002 budget would hurt the economy if it were implemented as it was passed by parliament.

Parliament passed a budget in March which would increase government spending to 1.06 trillion naira (9.13 billion dollars).

President Olusegun Obasanjo had in November last year proposed a 824 billion naira budget, but the figure was boosted as the budget bill went through the federal parliament.
