Zimbabwe prints Z$250m note

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe will circulate two notes worth Z$100m and Z$250m in an attempt to limit the impact of hyperinflation.

The two notes are valued at $3,333 and $8,333 using the official exchange rate. However, this is thought to grossly overstate the value of the Zimbabwean dollar.

The central bank announced the notes' introduction on Monday and the denominations will be available from Tuesday.

Gideon Gono, the governor of the central bank, said the move was "meant to minimise inconveniences to the banking public and the corporate sector."

Previously, the central bank's highest-value note was worth Z$50m ($1,667).

Inflation hit 165,000% in February, according to official estimates.
