BOT's Tarisa defends baht controls

Bank of Thailand governor Tarisa Watanagase in an interview with Bloomberg Thursday 21 December defended measures to control the appreciation of the baht and said the rules will be removed once "volatility" eases.

"As soon as the volatility reduces, we will lift the requirement," Tarisa said in an interview with Bloomberg News in Bangkok. "This is temporary."

Tarisa announced currency controls on Monday to stem a 16 percent rise in the baht.

The measures prompted investors to dump Thai stocks
