Former Czech bank head accused of dubious actions

CZECH REPUBLIC - A special parliamentary committee on 3 July savagely attacked the Czech minority government for the way it handled the country's biggest banking crisis last June.

The committee criticises the "unprecedented and opaque" way the assets of the failed Investicni a Postovni Banka (IPB) - once the country's third largest bank - were transferred over a weekend to Ceskoslovenska Obchodni Banka (CSOB), now the biggest bank, with a full guarantee of their value.
