Bank of Thailand appoints Tarisa as governor

Thailand's Cabinet approved on Tuesday 17 October the appointment of Tarisa Watanagase, Bank of Thailand deputy governor, to take over as governor, the first female governor in the bank's 64-year history.

Atchana Waiquamdee, 55, BoT assistant governor has been promoted to deputy governor, replacing Ms. Tarisa, Deputy Transport Minister Sansern Wongcha-umister said on Tuesday.

Ms. Tarisa, 57, has been working for the central bank since 1975 as an economist. She held the post of deputy governor
