ECB has own idea of optimal fx reserves-Issing

European Central Bank (ECB) member Otmar Issing said he felt the amount of foreign reserves held in the Eurozone was well within the range of estimates, but was evasive on whether this constituted an optimal level.

Some economists believe the ECB and its member banks hold much more foreign exchange reserves than they need and that selling them for euros could help prop up the beleaguered single currency.In what some analysts saw as a step towards such a policy, the ECB said earlier this year
