EU re-designs euro coin to exclude Turkey

The new design of the euro coin - set to be introduced next year in Slovenia, Malta and Cyprus - will not feature Turkey despite its inclusion in the original plans.

Two Italian members of the European parliament (MEPs), Marco Cappato and Marco Pannella, uncovered papers that show the original design for the new coin was altered to exclude Turkey. An EU spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday to Reuters that the design was changed.
