Interview with Bank of Lebanon's Riad Salame

Speaking of the recent award of "central banker of the year" from Euromoney, Salame says: "This prize honors me personally, but it's essentially a tribute to the integrity of the central bank's work to maintain Lebanon's currency and financial stability while also ensuring the soundness and prosperity of the banking sector."

"It's true to say that each war leads to a bad economic situation," Salame says.

"As we face this situation, I believe we must propose a series of measures and a plan to bring about recovery of the markets. To attain this goal, Lebanon must take concrete decisions to ensure a relaunching of economic growth and to re-establish the social stability our country needs."

Salame says that reports linking him as a possible contender for the Lebanese Presidency follow the achievements of several years of work, but that the presidential election is a year away.
