Trichet says ECB's message well understood

European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet told a press conference Thursday 12 January that market expectations for further interest rate hikes show that the ECB's position has been well understood.

'Seen from our own perspective, the message has been well taken as regards what is presently in the market for possible future decisions,' Trichet said.

'On the perception of observers, market participants, European and global investors and savers on our message at the last press conference
