Trichet says FX rates should reflect fundamentals

European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet said Friday 20 April that too much volatility in foreign exchange rates is undesirable and exchange rates should mirror economic fundamentals.

Trichet's comments came at a press conference following a meeting with finance ministers from the 13 member euro zone countries.

"Excessive volatility and disorderly movements in exchange rates are undesirable for growth," he said.
