Few central banks brief fiscal authorities on monetary decisions

But practice is more common in institutions from the Americas

A minority of central banks communicate their decisions to the government prior to publication, data from the Monetary Policy Benchmarks 2023 reveals.

The proportion of 31 respondents that practise this principle is 23% compared with the 77% that avoid such briefings.

However, the study also shows that over two-thirds (67%) of central banks from the Americas brief their heads of government or finance ministers ahead of decisions being made public.
