Central banks report 28 operational bitcoin ATMs on average

Jurisdictions with larger institutions have the most machines

Central banks have fewer than 30 bitcoin automated teller machines (ATMs) operating in their jurisdictions on average, the Fintech Benchmarks 2026 find.

There are 19 data providers with an average of 28 bitcoin ATMs in the sample. A high income central bank from Europe reported the highest number of 270 machines and a high income central bank in the Americas reported the smallest figure of just one.

Further analysis by central banks’ total staff uncovers some variations in the sample. Data
