Participants at Cape Town meeting saw drawbacks to digital currency versus other payment methods

Many central banks are exploring the feasibility of launching digital currencies. However, participants in Central Banking’s latest interbank working group also highlighted potential drawbacks versus other payment methods, particularly around financial inclusion.

The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings 2025 in Cape Town, brought together six central bankers.
