Emerging market economies more likely to outsource distribution

Central banks in advanced and emerging economies tend to outsource different parts of the cash cycle, Central Banking’s Currency Benchmarks 2021 show. 

Printing was the most outsourced function by central banks in both advanced (79%) and emerging market economies (65%), followed by design – at 64% and 47%, respectively. 

Central Banking asked participants whether they outsource specific areas of their cash operations: printing, design, counterfeit detection, sorting, distribution, marketing
