Partner initiative: World Gold Council’s study group on domestic gold purchase programmes

The group has made strong efforts to promote sound domestic gold-buying practices

In 2023, the World Gold Council (WGC) created a study group with seven emerging market central banks and a number of international organisations. Its goal was to promote best practices in buying gold from domestic artisanal and small-scale gold miners via a knowledge exchange. 

The WGC invited senior officials from the central banks of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mongolia, the Philippines, Tanzania and Zambia to attend ‘sharing’ sessions in Paris and Vienna in April and October. The WGC has also
