Central Banking Awards: Ireland recognised for transparency

The Central Bank of Ireland has won Central Banking’s 2018 award for transparency, having worked hard to rebuild its credibility in the wake of the global financial crisis.

Trust in the central bank took a severe knock as the institution was perceived as failing to prevent a national housing crisis in 2008. Since then, the CBI has taken a proactive approach to openness; rather than shrinking from the public view, it has progressively revealed more of its inner workings.
