The first four of Central Banking’s 2018 awards were unveiled today (January 22), with Taiwan’s Perng Fai-nan recognised for several decades of service.

Perng, who spent 20 years as governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and is set to retire in February, oversaw a remarkable period of stability for the country. He was also one of the first to successfully use macro-prudential tools, and challenged the prevailing wisdom of the time on capital account openness.
