Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran
Established in May 1960 to take over central banking activities performed by Bank Melli Iran. In 1983 the Bank changed its name from Bank Markazi Iran to Bank Markazi Jomhouri Islami Iran. The Bank has the authority to issue notes and is responsible for the control of inflation and for maintaining the value of the domestic currency.
