Tanzania, DRC and Kenya keep rates on hold
Countries face different risk factors, though Middle East conflict remains common thread
The central banks of Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Kenya all held rates this week.
Tanzania and Kenya both cited the potential impact of the El Niño weather phenomenon as a threat to growth. For the DRC, conflict in the eastern part of the country and an outbreak of the Ebola virus were greater causes for concern.
All three central banks cited the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as a risk to their countries’ economies.
