Canada fights stigma over standing liquidity facility

Deputy governor outlines new plans for repo operations and central clearing

The Bank of Canada (BoC) and the country’s Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions are attempting to fight the stigma around lenders using the central bank’s standing liquidity facility (SLF).

In a statement on September 29, the two authorities explained that the facility helped with monetary policy implementation as well as with the smooth functioning of Canada’s high-value payment system, Lynx.

They also clarified that overnight draws from the facility were “not considered
