Sri Lanka holds rates as inflation remains high
CBSL says medium-term expectations remain ‘broadly anchored’ around target
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has kept its policy rate at 8.75% for a second successive meeting.
In a statement today (September 30), the bank said its monetary policy board had paid particular attention to the effects of the proactive tightening that had taken place in May, when it raised the policy rate by 100 basis points to its current level. The CBSL also said it recognised the uncertainty arising from evolving geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and risks associated with El Niño
