BoJ minutes show calls for faster rate hikes
Board member said focus of monetary policy had shifted towards capping price rises at June meeting
Bank of Japan board members called for faster rate hikes in June, according to newly released minutes of that month’s policy meeting.
According to the anonymised minutes, published on September 28, one board member said the “risk of waiting” had increased and that the BoJ should implement interest rate adjustments faster. This board member said the central bank’s focus of monetary policy had shifted away from lifting inflation to meet the BoJ’s 2% target to preventing prices from increasing
