Similarity between EU and Chinese goods exports has increased since 2019, research finds
China’s increased exports of machinery and transport equipment are eating into the exports of comparable goods from several European Union countries, particularly Germany, research from the European Central Bank finds.
In their paper, published on September 22, Ginevra Aguiari, Francesco Chiacchio, Matteo Falagiarda, Vanessa Gunnella and Emiel Cornelius Marchand create an index measuring the overlap between the sectoral composition of Chinese goods exports and those of each EU country. They find
