Peru holds as inflation risks from Middle East war loom large

Central bank also cites El Niño climate phenomenon as upside risk to price growth

Peru’s central bank has held its benchmark interest rate at 4.25% for the twelfth consecutive meeting.

In a statement on September 10, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) said global geopolitical and trade risks remained elevated, particularly with regard to the conflict in the Middle East. “Despite this, the prospects for global economic activity growth remain positive, and the terms of trade continue to favour the Peruvian economy,” it added.

The rates hold comes as policy-makers grapple
