Law to reform Argentina’s central bank passes lower house
Limits to indirect Treasury financing among measures that should be added to bill, says ex-BCRA chief
President Javier Milei’s proposed reform of Argentina’s central bank is on track after receiving approval from the lower house of Congress.
On August 26, the Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that would introduce a new charter for the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) with 144 votes in favour, 102 against and nine abstentions. The proposed legislation will now head to the Senate, though no date has been set for a vote.
Milei proposed the charter in July in an opinion piece in newspaper Clarín. He
