Will Kevin Warsh’s communications gambit pay off?

Fed chair believes less is more with comms, but experts say time is ticking on his credibility

By pivoting to a more reserved Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh is trying to balance politics, the economy and his own convictions, experts have told Central Banking ahead of this year’s economic symposium at Jackson Hole.

At the press conference following the Federal Open Market Committee’s July 28–29 meeting – the second to be presided over by Warsh – the Fed chair repeatedly refused to explain the rationale behind its decision to hold rates while inflation was running above target.
