Southern African nations remain cautious, despite deal between US and Iran

The central banks of Namibia and Botswana announced rates decisions this week, with both Southern African nations taking a cautious stance against the backdrop of the deal between the US and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. 

Botswana: hold amid uncertainty

The Bank of Botswana announced today (June 18) that it was holding its policy rate at 5.5%. It had raised the rate from 3.5% to its current level following the previous meeting of its monetary policy committee on April 30 – a decision it
