Russia’s Euroclear lawsuit ‘an empty gesture, but not meaningless’

Central bank will use Moscow courts to bolster claims for compensation in international forums, say experts

The Bank of Russia’s planned lawsuit against Euroclear in Moscow will have little bearing on its ability to seize back control of its immobilised assets, experts tell Central Banking. Yet the central bank’s almost certain victory in that case will enable it to pursue legal action in international forums and potentially sow further discord among supporters of Ukraine.
