Bailey switches sides as BoE holds at 4% in 5–4 decision
Members’ views, published for first time, show disagreement around staff’s central projection
The Bank of England held its policy rate today (November 6) at 4% in a 5–4 decision, as inflation was judged to have peaked at 3.8% in September.
The governor Andrew Bailey, Megan Greene, Clare Lombardelli, Catherine Mann and Huw Pill voted in favour of the hold. Sarah Breeden, Swati Dhingra, Dave Ramsden and Alan Taylor voted to cut by 25 basis points.
In September, the monetary policy committee (MPC) voted 7–2 to hold. During their August meeting, its members voted 5–4 to cut rates by 25bp.
