People: Head of Bank of Mauritius to step down

Rama Sithanen announced on September 20 that he would be stepping down this week as governor of the Bank of Mauritius. According to Reuters, although prime minister Navin Ramgoolam praised Sithanen’s record in office, he also said the governor’s position had become “untenable” and called for him step aside “in order for the Bank of Mauritius to regain its serenity”.
