Mozambique president reappoints governor
Former IMF official Zandamela has faced inflation, Covid-19 and fallout from alleged fraud
The president of Mozambique appointed Rogério Lucas Zandamela to a second term as governor of the country’s central bank earlier this week.
Filipe Nyusi initially appointed Zandamela in August 2016, shortly after the International Monetary Fund halted lending to Mozambique over a massive alleged fraud. Zandamela has faced the economic crisis caused by the alleged fraud over the “tuna bond”, as well as the Covid-19 pandemic and resurgent inflation.
