Irish officials increase criticism of incoming governor

Media reports that former governors and ECB all raised concerns over Makhlouf’s appointment

Two of Ireland’s former central bank governors and the European Central Bank have voiced concerns over the incoming governor, a local media outlet has reported.

A senior opposition politician has also publicly criticised the decision by Irish finance minister Paschal Donohoe to appoint Gabriel Makhlouf as Ireland’s central bank governor. Donohoe is a member of the Fine Gael party, which leads the Irish government despite not having a parliamentary majority.
