IMF’s Egypt representative takes helm at State Bank of Pakistan as country seeks fund support
A senior International Monetary Fund official has been appointed to lead the State Bank of Pakistan, as the country struggles to agree a programme of IMF funding.
Reza Baqir, who previously led the IMF’s regional office in Egypt, took over as SBP governor on May 5. He replaces Tariq Bajwa, who left the role around a year before the end of his term.
Baqir was appointed for a term of three years. He has 18 years of experience at the IMF, having held roles including mission chief for Romania and
