RBI deputy urges banks to address asset quality challenges
SS Mundra discusses challenges facing India’s otherwise ‘vibrant’ banking system
Asset quality is a key issue facing India's generally "healthy and vibrant" banking system, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deputy governor SS Mundra said on October 2.
"Asset quality of the banking system has been a subject of concern for us and hence, many of our recent measures are centred around improving the ability of the banking system to overcome these," he said, at the Global Banking Conference in Singapore.
He emphasised banks should "deal with, rather than postponing the asset quality
