Philippines governor unperturbed by inflation surge

The governor of the Central Bank of the Philippines, Amando Tetangco, insists the inflation environment is "manageable" despite year-on-year CPI almost doubling between September and January.

Inflation climbed steadily from 2.1% to 4.1% during that period, and this is the first month that inflation has exceeded 4% since January 2012. Nonetheless, Tetangco believes the central bank's prevailing monetary policy stance – it held the benchmark interest rate at 3.5% throughout 2013 – remains
