Lagarde says ECB has ‘room to manoeuvre' on rates
Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, today singled out the European Central Bank (ECB) as "clearly" the one major central bank in the world that "still has room to manoeuvre" on interest rates.
Her comments come a day after the president of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Jens Weidmann, suggested in an interview the ECB "might adjust" rates if "new information" from economic indicators suggested a rate cut were needed. The ECB's benchmark rate currently stands at 0
