Bernanke says central bank independence essential during periods of QE
Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, on Wednesday discussed the importance of maintaining central bank independence, especially during periods when unconventional methods are in operation.
At a conference at the Bank of Japan in Tokyo, Bernanke said political interference in monetary policy can generate undesirable boom-bust cycles that ultimately lead to a less stable economy and higher inflation.
