Berlin cbank president opposes ECB rate cut-paper

The European Central Bank shouldn't move to cut interest rates before euro-zone inflation reaches 2.2%, the president of the German regional central bank for Berlin and Brandenburg, Klaus-Dieter Kuehbacher, said on Mar 7, 2001 in an advance copy of an interview with German weekly Focus Money.

It's important for the ECB as a relatively young institution to build trust, Kuehbacher said, and to do that it should adhere to a stable monetary policy. "Unfortunately, (the ECB) wasn't oriented on that"
