Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Rafael Buenaventura will report back to work on Monday after a two-month break.

Buenaventura's return from a sick leave that started on March 10 will be in time for the 12-day review of the country's performance by the International Monetary Fund starting May 8.

The central bank governor is the country's chief negotiator with the IMF.

Buenaventura left for the United States in March to undergo treatment for what he described was a minor thyroid problem.

BSP Deputy Governor Amando Tetangco Jr. acted as officer in charge of the central bank while Buenaventura was out.

Tetangco steered the BSP during the time when the peso dropped to a record low of 55.099 on March 12. It was during this period when the BSP fined several banks for speculating against the peso.

The acting chief described his two-month stint as "his most trying moments at the BSP."
