Islamic finance suited for green investments – BNM governor

Abdul Rasheed says sharia-compliant vehicles offer “ready-made infrastructure for risk-sharing”

The governor of Bank Negara Malaysia has said Islamic finance is ideal for funding social development and green infrastructure because it can help advance projects that would otherwise not go forward.

During a speech in Hong Kong on September 8, Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour said public budgets were not sufficient to meet Asia’s need for sustainable development. “And here, Islamic finance offers a structural advantage, giving us ready-made infrastructure for risk-sharing,” he said.
