Guinea taps IMF funding as it prepares major mining project

Central bank is expected to implement governance and transparency reforms

The International Monetary Fund has agreed to provide Guinean authorities with $310.6 million under an extended credit facility programme linked to reforms to central bank governance and exchange rate flexibility.

According to a statement published by the fund on August 11, the agreement is still subject to approval by the IMF executive board in September. The programme aims to reconcile Guinea’s fiscal sustainability objectives with its long-term development goals.
