Brazil to issue up to $735m worth of panda bonds

PBoC governor welcomes announcement and pledges support to China’s partner in ‘global south’

Brazil’s finance minister has said the country plans to issue renminbi-denominated bonds at a value of up to 5 billion yuan ($735 million) following a meeting with the governor of the People’s Bank of China.

The minister, Dario Durigan, submitted an application to issue the bonds in the Chinese market during a meeting with Pan Gongsheng in Beijing on June 24, the PBoC said in a statement the same day. According to Chinese state media reports, Durigan said Brazil’s plan to issue the instruments
