Brazil’s central bank reassures public that Pix is free

Online rumours claimed payments system would start charging consumers and firms


The Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) has issued a statement denying online claims it will start charging firms and consumers fees to use its Pix payments system.

Over the past few months, disinformation has circulated on social media, claiming that new fees would be imposed on Pix transactions. 

The central bank also posted a link to a video it made about a year ago, which states that individuals and many business users can make Pix payments or transfers free of charge. However, Pix does sometimes
