Mexico and Nicaragua hold interest rates

Banxico revises upwards its forecast for hitting 3% inflation target; while Nicaragua expects inflation to remain “low and stable”

The Bank of Mexico (Banxico) has held its benchmark interest rate at 6.5% for second consecutive meeting in a unanimous decision by its governing board.

The five-member board said a statement following the decision on August 6 that renewed conflict in the Middle East had driven volatility in markets and caused international energy prices to rise. “Uncertainty persists regarding the conflict in the Middle East and its repercussions,” the board said.
