Brazil cuts rates for a fourth time in a row

BCB’s policy statement shorter and more focused than previous decision, analyst says

The Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) has cut rates by a quarter point for the fourth meeting in a row.

The bank’s monetary policy committee, known as Copom, voted unanimously on August 5 to lower the benchmark Selic rate to 14%. In a statement, the bank said that the current economic environment was marked by heightened uncertainty, a deanchoring of inflation expectations and elevated risks.
